One of the great hallmarks of St. Francis of Assisi was that he took
the gospel to the people, wherever they happened to be found. St.
Francis and the early early brothers traveled from town to town
preaching penance and exhorting all who would hear them to live the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. They preached bodly in marketplaces
and at town gatherings. Nearly eight hundred years later, the Capuchin
Franciscans seek to carry out that same tradition.
Through our ministry of preaching and Confession at the Catholic Center
at the Citadel Mall we try to follow the example of our early brothers
and the exhortations of our father Francis. The Capuchins have staffed
and maintained the Catholic Center since it began in November of 2001.
The Catholic Center has proved a vital spiritual resource, providing
daily Mass, Confession in both English and Spanish throughout the mall
hours, spiritual direction, vocation discernment, and parish referrals
to people new in the Colorado Springs area. This unique Capuchin
ministry recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.
The Catholic Center is located on the upper level of the Citadel Mall
in Colorado Springs, CO., between Dillards and Burlington Coat Factory.
The center is staffed completely by the Capuchin Friars of the Province
of Mid-America
