"Through Spiritual Direction I found myself receiving a greater desire for prayer, fraternity and a deeper desire to minister to the homeless and the people that society shuns from the greater community."

On the evening of September 27, surrounded by the Capuchin Friars and Poor Clare Sisters at St. Francis Friary in Denver, Anthony received the traditional Tau cross and officially began his postulancy year.

Anthony will reside at the postulancy house of formation, Fraternidad San Antonio in Denver, Colorado. Under the guidance of director, Fr. Gene Emrisek, O.F.M.Cap., Anthony will learn more about the religious life, the Catholic Church, as well as the history and spirituality of the Capuchin Franciscans.

Please keep Anthony in your prayers as he begins this special year!

See Inter Alia for photos from the celebration.

WELCOME ANTHONY!
Friars Welcome New Postulant In Joint Celebration at St. Francis Friary
Br. Joseph Mary Elder, O.F.M.Cap.

Anthony Monahan arrived at Fraternidad San Antonio (St. Anthony’s Friary) late on the morning of September 15 to begin a special year of vocation discernment. Anthony, age 37, will spend the next twelve months of his life living, praying and working with the Capuchin Friars of Mid-America while all the while seeking to discover if this is, indeed, where God is calling him.

Anthony William, son of William and Lucy Monahan, was born in the rural farming community of Altura, Minnesota, just outside of Winona in the southeast corner of the state on July 23, 1971. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with an Associates Degree in Horticulture, Anthony spent several years working in the hospitality industry with a special emphasis on hotels and restaurants. However, in 2004 Anthony decided to follow God’s call and entered diocesan formation at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona Minnesota. In reflection, Anthony writes:

"I first entertained the call when I was in fourth grade, serving mass, when I reached my senior year in high school the thought of diocesan as well as religious both came to my prayer life, however I chose to live life my way.  Through the challenges of life I didn't find a sense of peace and that is when I new that serving others in the capacity of either Diocesan or Religious would bring a greater sense of peace in my heart."

Three years later, Anthony graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy from St. Mary’s University, also in Winona.

Believing that God might be calling him to a different type of vocation in the Church, Anthony discovered the Capuchin Franciscan Province of Mid-America by way of the Province website. Through prayer and discernment, Anthony decided to leave the seminary in order to pursue further discernment with the Capuchin Friars.
