Fr. Blaine Burkey


Fr. Blaine is the province’s archivist and communications consultant and its senior friar in Denver. Born in Cumberland MD in 1935, he entered the Capuchin novitiate in 1954 and was ordained in 1961. After teaching for 32 years in Victoria and Hays KS, sandwiched between two short assignments in St. Louis, he brought the archives, which he began in 1974, to Denver in 2006. As provincial director of communications 1977-2012, Blaine began and edited the Provincial Porter 1977-1999, and began the provincial website in 1999. An avid secular, religious and family historian, he has written over 20 books and pamphlets, including In Secret Service of the Sacred Heart, the Life and Virtues of the Servant of God Julia Greeley.
