Friars Take Youth on Mission Trip to Gallup
From July 23 - 27 Capuchins Joseph Elder and Francisco Ramirez led a missionary experience with twelve youth from Annunciation Parish in Denver to work with Blessed Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in Gallup, New Mexico at their soup kitchen and mens' shelter. For four days the youth worked alongside the Missionaries of Charity in serving the poorest of the poor from the poverty-stricken Navajo reservations surrounding Gallup. They made beds, prepared meals, swept floors, hung laundry, dug ditches, pulled weeds, and tried to offer a friendly smile and a kind word to the poor men and women who visited the shelter on a daily basis. All the while, the youth learned about the simple beauty of Mother Teresa's spirituality – loving Jesus in the distressing disguise of the poorest of the poor. In addition to daily Mass, the youth had the opportunity to pray with the sisters and to hear about their life and spirituality. It was an incredible and life-changing experience which will continue to bear fruit in their lives for many years to come. Several of the youth are currently discerning a vocation to the priesthood and religious life. Please keep them in your prayers!
